Dan Bălan was born in Chişinău Moldova in 1979. His father was diplomatist and his mother announcer for the moldovan television TVM. Today she has her own TV show - the "Ludmila Bălan Show". She´s very popular in Moldova, known as "auntie Ludmilla". Until the age of three Dan spent his childhood in the village of Trebujeni, together with his parents, his sister Sanda and his granny Anastasia. When Dan was four or five years old she took him with her to the studio sometimes. At the age of 7 Dan started to write poems. When he was about ten years old, his father Mihai gave him an "Weltmeister" accordeon as a gift. At the age of eleven he started to compose his first songs. He also studied guitar and percussions when he was older and he went to a music school to study the accordeon.
From grades 1-8 he visited school number 10, in 1993 he went to Gheorghe Asachi school.
When Dan was 16 he went to Israel with his parents, for his father became an ambassador for Moldova. In Tel-Aviv he went to the scottish school (Tabeetha school), which is the reason for his good english, as in moldovan school english was not a subject.
After 1 1/2 years he went back to Chisinau/Moldova. When he had finished school he attended law school, but he gave it up after some time to study music. He and played in several bands ("A. Stircea" und "Pantheon"). One of those was a rock/gothic band, but metal hd no future on the moldovan music market.In 1997 he founded the band "Inferialis", Petru Jelihovski was the leadsinger. Later he founded a duo together with his friend Petru Jelihovski. They recorded an album under the name "Dan Bălan Project". It was very succesfull, but to Petru music was just a hobby. So Dan started to look for professional musicians and went to Romania in 2001.
He met Arsenie and Radu at castings and they got famous in Europe and North America as "O-Zone".

After the separation of O-Zone Dan Balan starts a new project "Crazy loop, The Power of Shower" in the USA.
